Spoken by < 500 people in one remaining community: Karawala
Nearly all children grow up speaking Miskitu

Initiated in 1987 by Ken Hale (MIT) and a local committee of native speakers in Karawala: Leonzo Knight, Francisco Santiago, Lorinda Martinez, Abanel Lacayo, Kandler Santiago, Clementina Simon
I became involved in 1989, wrote dissertation based on fieldwork in Karawala: A Lexicographic Study of Ulwa, MIT, 1999.
